| San Diego Union (San Diego, California) Sunday, August 27, 2017 Morris C. Carter, LCDR, USN (Ret.) April 28, 1923 - August 14, 2017 Escondido Morris Carter, 94, passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2017. Morris was born in Malvern, AR, and grew up in Wickenburg, AZ. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and served 29 years from WWII through Vietnam, retiring at NAS North Island in 1970. In 1944, he married Virginia Hanson, the love of his life, with whom he traveled all over the world after retirement. Morris was a loving husband, dad, granddad and great-granddad. Morris was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie (Bill) Thiele. He is survived by his sweetheart of 75 years, Virginia and daughters Corla Davis and Laurie (Jim) Gates. He is also survived by grandchildren Bill (Karin) Thiele Jr., Tim (Heather) Thiele, Scott (Adriana) Thiele, Jennifer Gates and James (Victoria) Gates IV, and great-grandchildren Trevor, Justin and Bryce Thiele, and Shant Gates. Military honors will be bestowed at Miramar National Cemetery September 4, 2017 at 12:30 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at the Officers Club, MCAS Miramar. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. See Also: Find A Grave |
