Amelia Rivas (Rodarte), age 86, of Phoenix, Arizona, joined her
family in heaven April 19, 2018, after a courageous battle with
illness. Family was by her side as she left this earth. Amelia was
born to Augustine and Isabel Rodarte in Prescott, Arizona, on Jan.
15, 1932.

Amelia was a pillar of strength as a single mother of four,
sometimes working three jobs to provide for the family. She worked
for 30 years with the Veterans Administration hospital as a Nurse’s
Aide, and her nickname there was “Sarge”! Her other career was with
JC Penny’s, working with them for over 10 years. She finally retired
at the young age of 75, and then took her first cruise to Hawaii!
Amelia showed her family how to be a hard worker, help family in
need and have faith in her God. She will be missed for her humor,
her stories and her great cooking.

Amelia was preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Person
(Rivas); parents, Augustine and Isabel Rodarte; four sisters and
five brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Lucy Rivas (Jim Carey) and Kathy
Shields (Bill Shields); son, Andy Rivas; 17 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. Additionally she has many nieces and nephews
that she was so fond of talking to and seeing when possible.

Amelia loved being with her family, going on cruises and traveling
to other states. She really enjoyed watching her Hallmark movies,
especially during Christmas.

She will be missed by us all, she left us too soon! Services will be
held on May 4, 2018, Rosary at 11:30 a.m., Mass at 12 p.m., at Saint
Jerome Catholic Church, 10815 N. 35th Ave., Phoenix, Arizona, 85029.
