Betty Jean (McLaughlin) Comfort

Betty Jean Comfort, 76, passed away from complications of cancer on
April 22, 2018, in hospice care at her home in Dewey.

The daughter of Pete and Dorothy McLaughlin, Betty was born on
October 29, 1941 in Inglewood, California, and grew up in Culver
City. She graduated from UCLA and taught elementary school in the
San Fernando Valley. She moved to Humboldt in 1975, when she married
Don Comfort, Jr.

They were together for 41 years, until Don’s death in 2016. Betty
taught in the Mayer School District for many years, retiring in
1998. She enjoyed painting, nature, and spending time with Don. They
liked to travel and visit friends, or spend time in Sedona. Betty
volunteered extensively for the Dewey-Humboldt Town Library
Committee, and the Kate Garber Memorial Community Activity Center,
as well as the local food bank and other groups. In 2015, she was
named one of the Dewey-Humboldt Volunteers of the Year for 2014.

Betty is survived by her youngest sister Nina McLaughlin, and was
preceded in death by another sister, Carol McLaughlin, as well as by
her parents.

Per her wishes, there was no funeral. Cremation arrangements were
handled by the Sunrise Mortuary.
