Gene Milligan Is Dead
Motor Firm's Founder Was State Pioneer
One of Prescott's long-time residents and ardent sportsmen, Eugene
'Gene' Milligan, 72, died early today at his home, 306 S. Marina St.
With his brother, Walter, he operated the Milligan Brothers Motor
Co., in this city and was at one time active in ranching and mining.
Mr. Milligan was born on June 12, 1881, in Colorado and came to
Arizona with his family by covered wagon in 1896. The family
settled on a ranch near Dewey and Milligan remained in that area
until 1920, at one time operating a mine on Ash Creek near Humboldt.
In 1920, Milligan came to Prescott to join his brother, Walter, in a
tire business the latter had started in 1918. The enterprise later
added a gas station to its activities and was located at a number of
sites in Prescott until it was established at its present location,
401 W. Gurley St.
In 1948, the Mulligan Brothers took over the local Nash auto agency
and founded the Milligan Brothers Motor Co. A few months ago, the
service station was leased, but Mulligan's retained the tire
business and auto agency.
Mr. Mulligan was a devoted sportsman, with hunting his prime
recreation. During his years as a hunter he brought down many fine
specimens and he became something of an 'advisor' to those wanting
local hunting information.
He was a member of the Prescott Elks Lodge and the Prescott
Sportsmen's Club.
Surviving besides his brother, is a sister, Mrs. May Human, of
Prescott. Mr. Mulligan was never married.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Ruffner Funeral Home.
