| Prescott Evening Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, October 15, 1959, page 4, column 2 State Pioneer Belle Monroe Dies at 91 Mrs. D. Belle Monroe, of an early-day Arizona ranching family, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, in a Prescott hospital. A resident of Arizona for 80 years, she had moved to Prescott 10 years ago. She was born May 25, 1868, in California, a member of the Phippeny family which pioneered in that state before becoming well-known early settlers of Arizona. When Belle was 11, the family moved to the Ash Creek area of Arizona, where they were long-time cattle ranchers. She married Essler Monroe, also a rancher in the same vicinity, who died a number of years ago. Surviving Mrs. Monroe are three nephews, Ernest Phippeny, Prescott; Ralph Phippeny, Camp Verde; and Charles Phippeny, Phoenix. Burial will be tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Middle Verde Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Ruffner Funeral Home tonight between 6 and 9. |
