Fatal Accident - Courier
Mr. J. F. Blandy, who has been surveying a route for the railroad in
Big Bug district, returned last evening and informs us that Louis
Scopel, a miner, fell down a wizen at the Boggs mine, Thursday night,
a distance of 40 feet, and received injuries from which he died at 4
o'clock Friday morning.
Several shots had been touched off, but Mr. Scopel, thinking all but
one had failed, started down the winze to see what was the matter with
them. The shots had not failed, but had all exploded, and the powder
smoke so overcame Mr. Scopel that he relaxed his hold on the ladder
and was hurled to his death.
Deceased has relatives living in Crook canon south of Prescott.
Transcriber's note: Mr. Scopel is buried in an unmarked grave at the
Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
