DEATH OF MRS. D.C. THORNE

A feeling of sincere sorrow pervades our whole community, on account
of the death at the early age of thirty years, of Mrs. Mary Anna
Thorne, the late wife of our townsman, Daniel C. Thorne, Esq., which
occurred on the morning of the first instant." The late Mary Anna
Thorne, nee Wilson, was a native of New Jersey and was married in the
City of New York in 1870, in which year she came with her husband to
PrescottT where she has since resided.

She was a woman of more than ordinary culture, was noted for her
amiability of temper and sweetness of disposition, and her chief charm
was her devotion to her family." "She leaves a husband and three boys;
also an infant daughter, whose advent into this world she only
survived a brief period.

Her death is especially sad and will be deplored, not only by her
family and more intimate friends, but by our entire people, who extend
their most heartfelt sympathy to the kind and affectionate husband,
and the little children, who have been so suddenly bereft of the
loving companionship of a devout wife and the protecting care of a
cherishing mother."

Sustained by a holy love for her husband and children, she resisted
the fell destroyer until overcome by an illness which baffled the
skill of her physicians, she yielded up her spirit to Him who gave it.

Her funeral took place from the family residence on Alarcon Street, at
2 o'clock, Monday afternoon, and notwithstanding the very unusual
depth of snow on the ground, a great number of our people expressed
their respect for her memory by giving their attendance.

The Rev. Mr. Adams conducted the services at the house, and the
following were the pall bearers; Messrs. Daly, Morgan, Fisher, Bones,
Corey and Cline.

DEATH OF MRS. MARY A. THORNE

Sunday morning, at 2 o'clock, the Heavenly Messenger bore away to the
silvery shores beyond the home of the stars the spirit of one of
Prescott's most honored and respected ladies, Mrs. Mary A. Thorne. The
deceased was born at Tilton Falls, New Jersey, January 10th, 1830;
consequently was at the time of her death thirty years and twenty days
old.

Her aliment was puerperal septicemic (an infection of the blood
system, which she probably got because, at the time, the doctors did
not wash their hands as a routine measure.) And although the best
medical aid was rendered during her brief illness, she gradually grew
worse until death relieved her sufferings.

Mrs Thorne was an affectionate wife, a loving mother and a valued
member of society in Prescott, where she had resided for several
years. None knew her but to admire and respect her, and we doubt very
much whether there was ever lived in this city a lady who had more
friends than the deceased.

She has gone to that home where troubles and sorrows are unknown and
will, from there, look down and watch over her broken-hearted husband
and four little babies here on earth. A good woman in every sense of
the word has been taken away by the rulings of the All-Wise God and we
mourn her loss.

BURIAL OF MRS. THORNE

Mrs. Mary A. Thorne was buried Monday afternoon from her late
residence, Rev. Mr. Adams officiating. The stores and business houses
were closed, and our citizens, irrespective of creeds or domination's,
notwithstanding the almost impassable condition of our streets on
account of snow, turned out en Masse to pay the last sad rites to the
memory of one of Prescott's beloved and honored ladies.

The funeral services were imposing indeed and the tears stole forth
from many of those present as they beheld the corpse of a noble wife
and mother, surrounded by her husband and beloved children, about to
consigned to the cold earth to that long home from which none return.

No more will that well directed counsel of wife and other be heard
within the home of the bereaved family, for the spirit has gone forth
on it's Heavenly way and will henceforth and forever remain in the
sunny land and wait the coming of her own.

Transcriber's note: Mrs. Thorne is buried in an unmarked grave at the
Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
