Closes His Eyes In Death At New York
(From Friday's Daily)
The death of Dan C. Thorne was learned yesterday as having occurred in
New York city on March 18, and old age was given as the cause. Mrs.
Thorne writes particulars of the closing days of this Hassayamper
whose name until recent years was a household one in this city. He
reached the ripe age of 85 years, 8 months and 27 days and was born in
1827.
In the early 70's Mr. Thorne came to Prescott from Idaho, and engaged
in business, establishing the old 'Cabinet,' a public resort which
took the lead in it line. The deceased man was of the world and in
all public movements, whether business or pleasure was the motive, was
always in the front rank. In generosity he never had an equal and his
many acts of benevolence will be a splendid tribute to his memory.
As a politician he was sagacious and always triumphed in his cause,
generally being with the Democratic party. Relinquishing the
commercial reins, he engaged in mining, and at the time of his death
was identified with several properties along the Santa Maria. Old age
and human ills brought his physical activity of other days to a
standstill, and when the end came he passed away as if going to sleep.
The remains were laid away at Binghampton, New York, the home of his
birth, on last Friday, where many distant relatives reside. Two sons
and a daughter, from his first wife survive, and a wife who was with
him to the end.
