Wayne Joseph Wirsing
Feb. 17, 1945 - May 28, 2018

Wayne Joseph Wirsing passed away May 28, 2018. Wayne was born Feb. 17, 1945, in Butternut, Wisc., to Arthur and Iris Wirsing as their second child. Wayne would not know his only brother as he died before Wayne was born. His early education was at St. Anthony's and he was a 1963 graduate of Park Falls High School. Following one year of college he was drafted in the US Army. After training at several bases he was sent to Korea where he became the company clerk. He advanced to SP5 in 13 months which was as fast as it could be accomplished. While in Korea he met and married his first wife Cha Cha. They later divorced. To their marriage was born three sons and Wayne adopted her daughter. They all survived him. Brian (Karen), Brent (Lori) and Barry. Tonya Wirsing was the daughter. In addition he has two grand daughters, Alicia Fleming and Jenna Fleming. He has one grand son Jase Wirsing. He also has one great granddaughter Anyah.

Wayne spent 28 years in the Price County Sheriff's Department. He started as a Deputy and advanced to Chief Deputy and then served four terms as Sheriff. Following this he spent 13 more years as a miner operating a gravel pit making products. Wayne was both law enforcement officer of the year and miner of the year for the state of Wisconsin.

Wayne married Susie Honsa Wirsing in November of 2013. They moved to Wickenburg, where they led a very active retirement.

Wayne is further survived by his step children Bobbie (Al) Haskins, Ross Honsa, Bill Honsa, Tammi (Rob) Meusec, Terri (John) Kaliska, Clark (Diana) Honsa. He also has 11 step grandchildren who came to love him. In addition he has two step great grandsons and one more to come in July.

A memorial service was held in Wickenburg on June 19th at the First Presbyterian Church and a memorial will be held July 6 at the First Baptist Church in Phillips, Wisc. He will rest at the Lakeside Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by David's Desert Chapel.
