Pioneer Railroad Builder Dies At Grand Avenue Home
Death claimed another Arizona pioneer yesterday.
George T. Tisdale, resident of the state sine 1886, died at his ranch
home on Grand avenue where he had lived since his retirement from the
contracting business in 1920. He was 79 years old.
A native of Covington, Tenn., Mr. Tisdale was for many years
associated with the Santa Fe railway company as superintendent of
bridges, building and water service.
Was Pioneer Railroad Builder -
Mr. Tisdale was one of Arizona's pioneer railroad builders, having
supervised construction of the Mayer, Crown King, Clarkdale and
Bradshaw mountain line to Poland, Ariz., the Phoenix - Winkelman line
and the Parter to Cadiz cutoff to California.
He became a resident of Phoenix in 1912, having previously resided in
Prescott, to enter the construction and contracting business. Since
his retirement in 1920 he has made a hobby of ranching.
Survived By Wife -
Mr. Tisdale was a charter member of the Woodmen of the World in
Prescott and was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of
Elks there.
Besides his wife, Daisy, Mr. Tisdale is survived by two daughters,
Mrs. Robert P. Commings of Phoenix and Mrs. Frank W. Crakes of Santa
Monica, Calif.; a son, Louis C. of Phoenix; a brother Peter I., of
Phoenix and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements to be held in Phoenix yesterday awaiting word
from relatives. Interment will be in the family plot in Prescott.

Tisdale Rites Are Set Today
Funeral rites for George T. Tisdale, 79, pioneer Arizonan who died
Friday in his home on Grand avenue, have been scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
today in Memory chapel of A. L. Moore and Sons, conducted by the Rev.
R. N. Merrill.
Burial will be at Prescott, his former home. The Elks lodge there
will conduct services at the graveside.
Mr. Tisdale came to Arizona in 1886 and supervised construction of the
railroad lines from Mayer, Crown King, Clarkdale and Bradshaw mountain
line to Poland, Ariz., the Phoenix - Winkelman line and the Parter to
Cadiz cutoff line.
He moved to Phoenix in 1912 and for many years was a contractor here,
retiring in 1920. He had since resided at his ranch home on Grand
avenue.
