EDWIN P. WETZLER, BUCKEYE, DIES AT 87
BUCKEYE -- Edwin P. Wetzler, 87, who grew the first commercial
vegetables in the Buckeye area, died yesterday in a Phoenix nursing
home.
Mr. Wetzler was a native of Fort Collins, Colorado and came to Phoenix
in 1894. After serving during the Spanish-American War, he opened a
grocery store in Arlington, near here and later opened a dairy here.
Survivors include three sons, Richard of Globe; Arthur of Chandler and
James of Lynwood, California; five daughters, Mrs. Rose Leister and
Mrs. Edna Ellis of Phoenix; Mrs. Margaret Ritter of Cottage Grove,
Oregon; Mrs. Betty Locke of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Annabelle Pierce
of Buckeye. There are 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and
four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Buckeye First
Baptist Church. The Rev. Roy McGuffy will officiate and burial will be
in Louis B. Hazelton Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Buckeye
Funeral Home between 7 and 9 p.m. tomorrow.
