Prescott Evening Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, March 2, 1928, page 3, column 4 Amos Swigert, prominent citizen of Mayer and a man beloved by all who knew him, was laid to Rest Tuesday afternoon in Prescott. All business housed in Mayer were closed and the school children were excused for the afternoon, and nearly every person in the little town drove to Prescott to pay his last respects to the man all were so sorry to loose. The operation, which he underwent Saturday, after his fall Friday evening, was a success, but his heart, which had been in a bad condition for some time, could not stand the shock. ---------- Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Jamieson of Phoenix, son-in-law and daughter of Mrs. Swigert and the latter's sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ward came back to Mayer Tuesday evening with Mrs. Swigert. The Jamieson left Wednesday for Phoenix, but Mrs. Ward will remain here. The funeral services were in the hands of the Moose lodge. The members once more formed the defending circle about their departed brother as he lay in his casket at the cemetery. The beautiful service was read by the lodge brothers and then, after a few words from the Reverend Weldman, the casket was lowered into the earth. There were a great many people present and the great masses of beautiful flowers faintly expressed the esteem in which Amos Swigert had been held. Mrs. J. E. O'Brien postponed the meeting of the Monday Evening Card Club and Mrs. W. J. Mayer postponed the meeting of the Mayer Fortnightly 500 Club. Mrs. Swigert was a member of both clubs.
