Helen Elizabeth (Smith) Milne

Lake Havasu City, Arizona -

Helen Elizabeth Milne died in her home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona on
June 26th, 2018 after a short illness. She was 99 years old. A
memorial and celebration of her life will take place on Saturday,
August 11th at 2:00 at the Lake Havasu City Senior Center. She will be
interred at the Loudonville, Ohio cemetery on August 15th.

The daughter of Walter and Mae Smith, she was born in Ashland County,
March 5, 1919. She grew up on the family farm, in charge of baking the
daily bread at the age of 7, standing on a chair to do her chores.
Helen was very proud of her service in WWII. She married Howard R.
Bowman and moved from Ohio to Alameda, Ca. Petite and unassuming,
Helen was perfect for the job ofundercover security at the local
department store. She loved animals and had many pets including birds
which she sold to traveling circuses, a raccoon, and a ferret. She and
Howard eventually retired to Lake Havasu City in 1974. They were
original members of the Lake Havasu Gem and Mineral Society. Following
Howard's death, Helen married her long-time friend and fellow rock
hound Leonard Milne. Together they shared their love of gems and
minerals, travel, cards, music and good friends for over 18 years.

Leonard passed in 2005. Helen was an avid quilter and jewelry maker,
much to the delight of all those who benefitted from her exceptional
talents. Helen continued to participate in the community playing bunco
at the Senior Center and attending meetings and events of the Gem and
Mineral Society. She was also a member of the Republican Women's
Society and the Lake Havasu Historical Society.

She is survived by her cousin Maxine Stafford, nieces Virginia Mosher
(Fred) and Rose Schulson (Ron), nephew Stuart Smith (Julianne) and
their families, and stepsons Steve Milne (Bonny) and Larry Milne
(Vicki) and their families.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Virginia Smith, Frances
Stafford, Herschel Smith, Kenneth Smith, Walter Smith and husbands
Howard Bowman and Leonard Milne.
