Patricia Maureen Fleming Mar. 26, 1939-Apr. 24, 2010

Resident of Alameda Patricia Maureen Fleming, of Alameda, CA, passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer on Saturday April 24, 2010. She was 71. Patricia will be remembered first and foremost as a devoted mother and grandmother. Her character attributes of strength in the face of adversity, faith, intellectual curiosity, the love of language and an obligation to right injustice are values that she modeled to her children and grandchildren. We are grateful. Patricia was a poet and a writer. She received her RN degree from Merritt College School of Nursing and her philosopher and Jesuit priest Teilhard de Chardin. She demonstrated her devotion to Teilhard's philosophy through her unwavering spirit of generosity and deep compassion for all those around her. She was a member of St. Joseph's Basilica Parish Hall in Alameda, CA and a Companion of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. Patricia is survived by daughters Susan Maureen Hall, Deborah Ann Ajimura, Patricia Anne Chan, Jayne Elizabeth Fleming; son Paul Edward Fleming; grandchildren Robert Nicholas Hall, Anthony Edward Brum, Isabel Katherine Brum, Buffy Mitsuko Ajimura, Katie Sachi Ajimura, Teresa Margaret Fleming, Edward Martin Fleming; son-in-laws Jack Hall, Allen Ajimura, Kevin Chan and daughter in law Holly Fleming. She is preceded in death by her late husband Samuel Edward Fleming and granddaughter Tiffany Anne Silva. A vigil and memorial Mass will be held in her honor at St. Barnabas Catholic Church 1437 Sixth Street Alameda, CA. Services: Vigil Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 7:30pm. Memorial Mass Thursday April 29, 2010 at 10am. Patricia will be laid to rest beside her late husband Samuel Edward Fleming at Black Canyon cemetery in Black Canyon City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Patricia's memory to Casa Vincentia and Doctors Without Borders. "Withered grass, faded flower, How soon we come, To that last hour, And yet...Beside the constant stream, Hopeful roots, Can't help but dream, Of that fair flesh, And glowing face, Endless life, Called forth by Grace."
