| Arizona Daily Sun (Flagstaff, AZ) Wednesday, September 28, 1977, p. 16 Joseph Heer, 82, a native of Stuttgart, West Germany, died Monday at his home in Flagstaff. Mr. Heer was born Nov. 17, 1894 in West Germany. His education was primarily furniture designing and music. He served in the armed forces during the World War I and was wounded near the end of the war. After World War I Mr. Heer completed architectural studies then designed and built industrial buildings and apartments in southern Germany. In 1926 he opened his office in Stuttgart, and built several hundred apartment buildings during the 1920s. During the second World War he left his Stuttgart residence and moved into the country, actively opposing Germany's political development. After World War II he was offered city government positions by the American occupation forces, but he returned to his architectural work in Stuttgart. Dissatisfied with the post-war political situation, Mr. Heer emigrated to the U.S. at age 65 settling first in Tucson and later in Flagstaff, where he built apartment complexes. Locally he was active in the Flagstaff Symphony, the Lions Club and was a member of the American Security Council. Survivors include one son, Horst Heer, and a daughter, Hildegard Baur, both of Stuttgart, West Germany. He is also survived by his secretary and housekeeper in Flagstaff.
