| Published in Today's News Herald on Oct. 31, 2018 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Karen (McCracken) Hallstrom Malin, loving wife, mother & grandmother passed away peacefully with family at her side in Lake Havasu City, AZ, Oct. 24, 2018 at the age of 72. Born July 14, 1946 in Las Cruces New Mexico, grew up in Orangevale, CA. She attended Bella Vista HS graduate class of '64 from Del Oro HS in Loomis, CA. Karen enjoyed a full, adventurous & rewarding life. She supported herself & daughter through college as a blackjack dealer at Harvey's & waitress, while in pursuit of a criminal justice degree. She was proud to be one of the first female Correctional Sergeants at Folsom Prison. After retiring she moved to Hawaii, met and married Dennis Malin, the man who would be her loving companion for the rest of her life. She is survived by her husband Dennis; daughter Kristina DeWinter LT USCG ret. and husband Anthony DeWinter LCDR USCG ret.; and grandchildren Lillian and Abigail. Karen was preceded in death by her parents Mack & Leahmon McCracken; Nephew, Michael Challe; and Niece, Dawn Uman. Thoughts and condolences can be sent to Karen's family at www.mohavememorial.com.
