Elmer Campbell Cowan

Elmer Campbell Cowan, 88, seven-year resident of Glencroft
Retirement Community, Glendale, Arizona and 49-year resident of
Arizona, died early Thursday morning, March 11, 2004, at the
Glencroft Care center.

Mr. Cowan, born in Powhatton, Ohio, December 10, 1915, was the son of
George Austin Cowan and Trovilla Olive (West) Cowan. His early years
were spent in Springfield, Ohio, where he attended school and
vocational training school specializing in auto mechanics. He had
served as service manager for Trenor Motors and Conrad Motor Company.
During World War II, Mr. Cowan was a diesel engine specialist keeping
the LST landing barges running and ready for troop landings in the
Pacific and Europe.

In June of 1955, the Cowan family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where Mr.
Cowan worked for Cummins Diesel and later joined Safeway Stores as the
Arizona regional service manager for the trucking fleets.

Mr. and Mrs. Cowan were active members of the Eastside Church of the
Nazarene, Biltmore Church of the Nazarene and most recently Glendale
Church of the Nazarene.

As residents of Glencroft, they participated and enjoyed the fellowship
with Glencroft Community Church members.

Mr. Cowan is survived by his wife of 69 years, lona Mae (Connin) Cowan.
Two children, Ronald Dean of Lebanon, New Hampshire and Janice Mae
(Cowan) Sanders of Morrison, Tennessee with five grandchildren and
eight great grandchildren who will surely miss this loving
supporter. Also surviving are his sister, Jene (Cowan) Dees of
Kimberling City, Missouri and brother, Jack William Cowan of Tarpon
Springs, Florida.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Elmer (Slim) Cowan will be
held for relatives and friends at the Glencroft Community Church on
Saturday, April 3 at 10 am in the auditorium of the community center
located in the center of the Glencroft campus at 8611 North 67th
Avenue, Glendale, Arizona. A reception will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friendship
Foundation at Glencroft that provides services to those residents of
the Glendale Community without resources.
