Aged Minister Found Death In Room Of Hotel
John R. L. Fowlkes, 65, who for the last two years has been employed as
bookkeeper by Sam Dreyer, merchant, was found dead in his room at the
Maurel hotel at about 9 o'clock this morning, death having been caused
by apoplexy, according to Dr. R. N. Looney, who was called in the case.
Death is thought to have come to Mr. Fowlkes some time after 4 o'clock
yesterday afternoon, when the man was seen for the last time. He
apparently dropped to the floor in on corner of the room and had not
moved after the stroke seized him.
The body of Fowlkes was discovered this morning when the landlady,
noticing that the door of his room stood open, looked in and saw him
lying there.
No inquest was held, death being found due to natural causes by Dr.
Looney.
Funeral arrangements will not be made by local authorities have
communicated with Mrs. Fowlkes and a daughter who are living in
California.

formerly was a resident of Ray where he spent many years as pastor of
the Methodist church.
