COOLEY, Ellen McLaws
Ellen McLaws Cooley, age 95, passed away January 10, 2004 in
Mesa, AZ. She was born November 9, 1908 in the Mormon colonies
in Mexico, the 5th of 9 children born to John W. and Ellen
Bradshaw McLaws.
At age 4, during the Mexican Revolution, Poncho Villa drove the family out and they settled in Arizona. Ellen saw H. Dean Cooley at a dance and was drawn to this handsome guy. They were married in the Mesa LDS Temple January 5, 1933.
Ellen has devoted her life as mom and grandmother to her family. A lifetime member of the LDS Church, she has served in numerous callings and has faithfully served many years in the temple. She especially enjoyed teaching the youth in Sunday School. Her passion was learning how to maintain good health.
With the untimely death of her sweetheart in 1970, Ellen has focused on helping her family and friends with their health concerns.
Survivors include sons, Dean (Janet), Stephen (Victoria), and
Rosel (Sheryl); daughters, Nancy (Brian) Kerbs and Betty
(David) Beaty; sisters, Emma Hunsaker and Sibby Peterson; 36
grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren and 11
great-great-grandchildren. Ellen was preceded in death by her
daughter, Gay (Burt) Kruglick.
Funeral services Wednesday, January 14 at Mesa 27th Ward, 611 N. Stewart, Mesa, AZ. Interment in City of Mesa Cemetery. Arrangements by Meldrum Mortuary.
