ALLEN, William Hershel (Bill)


William Hershel (Bill) Allen Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on Dec. 26, 1914. Departed on Oct. 4, 2002 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona. William 'Bill' Hershel Allen, a long-time Arizona resident died on Friday, October 4th in Sedona. Bill and his wife Ann moved to Flagstaff in 1942. Bill was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on December 26, 1914. He grew up in Kansas during the Dustbowl Era. He also lived and travelled around the United States as part of his service in the Navy. Bill had a tremendous work ethic. He worked hard his entire life, including honorable service in the United States Navy during World War II. He also served as a teacher at Flagstaff High School for twelve years. In additon to teaching, he worked as a manager at the Flagstaff Saw Mill. Bill was a loving, generous, and kind husband, father and grandfather. He will be forever missd, but always in our hearts. Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann ; his children: Rosemary Hughes of Phoenix; Nadine Allen-Perry of London, England; William Allen and James Allen both of San Diego, Calif. and six grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 11th at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix at 1:00 p.m. Westcott Funeral Home is directing arrangements.
