| Arizona Republic (Phoenix, AZ) Sunday, March 7, 1965, p. D-21 Gila County Ex-Deputy Succumbs MIAMI--Leonard (Pete) Saunders, 69, a World War I veteran and former Gila County deputy sheriff, died Friday. Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Miles Chapel. The Rev. Donald Nikkel will officiate. Burial will be in Pinal Cemetery. Mr. Saunders, born in Brady, Tex., had been a resident of Arizona for 58 years. He came to Miami eight years ago from Prescott. Surviving are his wife, Betty; a son, Robert of Show Low; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Lowe of Nashville, Tenn.; a stepson, Jim Childers of Phoenix; stepmother, Mrs. Mary Saunders of Globe; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Donna Teixeira of Phoenix and Mrs. Betty Stanford of Mayer; a brother, John Saunders of Globe; a sister, Mrs. Willa Mae Pettus of Phoenix; and three grandchildren.
