| The Weekly Arizona Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Friday, August 15, 1879, page 3, column 1 Death of H. H. Kethroe Henry H. Kethroe, proprietor of Turkey Creek Station, who has been unwell for a few weeks, died last evening of inflammation of the brain, at the residence of C. A. Luke on Cortez street. We understand that the disease was brought on by being kicked by a horse. Mr. Kethroe came to Prescott, from Wisconsin, about four years ago, in company with two sisters, Mrs. Gurnee, now of California, and Miss Anna Kethroe, a teacher in Prescott Free Academy, and a brother, who now resides in Washington Territory. Another sister, Miss Nellie Kethroe came last season, and is a teacher of the Skull Valley School. Henry H. and his brother, bought the Turkey Creek Station soon after their arrival here, and he remained upon and cultivated the ranch ever since until illness brought him to town for medical treatment two weeks ago. He has had every attention that the best medical skill and constant and loving care of two devoted sisters could afford besides the willing assistance of a host of friends, all of whom did everything that humanity could suggest for his relief, but all to no effective purpose in affording immunity from the penalty that all must pay to nature, whose edict that all must die is ignorable and must be obeyed when the summons comes. The blow to the sisters now here, in the presence of all that remains on earth of their dead brother, is almost unbearable, they have the unfeigned sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement, but even this, and all that is possible for mortals to do or express, at such a time, can avail but little in the way of consolation to those whose brother is no more. ---------------------------- The Weekly Arizona Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Friday, August 15, 1879, page 3, column 1 Local Intelligence - The funeral of the late Henry H. Kethroe will take place from the Marina street M.E. Kethroe The funeral of H. H. Kethroe, who died on Monday evening, was largely attended today at 11 a.m., at the Marina street church, where funeral odes and dirges were sung by the choir, with Mrs. Brown as organist, and an appropriate sermon delivered by Rev. D. B. Wright. The bells of the court house and of Prescott Free Academy tolled as a long line of carriages left the front of the church in mournful procession and followed the remains to the city cemetery were the services were concluded. Transcriber's note: Mr. Kethroe is buried in an unmarked grave at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona. |
