The Passing Of A Printer

G. H. La Berteu, a pioneer printer of Prescott, passed quietly away
last night at 12 o'clock from an affliction that may be termed general
debility from old age. He arrived in Prescott in 1874, and was an
employe of the Miner for many years and other papers of this city, his
last service being on the Journal-Miner about six years ago. While
never strong and vigorous physically, his wonderful will power carried
him through many serious afflictions in later years, and his rallying
powers excited the admiration of all.

'Bert,' as he was favorably called, was a good man, and many kind acts
to the poor and needy, his modest and unconcerned manner in generous
consideration were indeed commendable.

He was a native of Bloomington, Indiana, and was in the neighborhood of
75 years of age, being an associate when a boy of the late T. J.
Butler. A peculiar feature of these two Indiana was that in crossing
the plains over forty years ago, and in all their ramblings along the
Pacific coast, while not always together, they both however kept in
close hailing distance, and when Mr. Butler came to Prescott in 1874,
Mr. La Berteu took his trail and came also.

He leaves no known relatives except a wife, who arrived today from
Phenix. Arrangements are being made today for his final interment,
which will be announced later, and it is hoped there will be a general
attendance of his many former friends.

May he find in the veiled hereafter all the beauties and charms he so
firmly believed in, and be relieved of all the cares and burdens he so
nobly endured in later years of his life.
