Blast Victim Dies At Home
Injuries suffered in a dynamite blast Tuesday proved fatal early this
morning to Phillip Monreal, 80, a resident of Arizona for 60 years.
Monreal was blasting rock in a garden at the Home when an explosion
'almost in his face,' according to eye-witnesses, inflicted injuries
which included a skull fracture and severe lacerations.
He had been a guest of the home since October 3, 1930, when he entered
from Mayer, where for many years he had engaged in mining.
At one time during his long period of his residence in the state, he
was postmaster at Poland, near Mayer.
The pioneer was born May 1, 1860 at Sonoita, Mexico and came to Arizona
in 1879, settling in Tucson. He resided there for several years and
then came to Yavapai County.
He is survived by a son, Phillip Monreal, Jr., an employe of Louis B.
Price Auto Parts company in Prescott.
Funeral services are in charge of Lester Ruffner Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the Church
of the Sacred Heart, where the Rev. Fr. Arthur Crook will recite High
Mass.
Interment will be in the family plot in Citizens cemetery, where
Monreal will be laid to rest beside his wife and daughter.
