G.A.R. Veteran Goes To Rest

Thomas N. Childers, 84, pioneer of the Humboldt district and a veteran
of the Civil War, succumbed to a lingering illness at the home of his
son, Ernest Childers, in the smelter city on last Saturday night and
will be laid at rest in the Odd Fellows cemetery here beside the body
of his wife, who died in 1907, tomorrow morning.

A native of Tennessee, Childers enlisted with the 15th Missouri cavalry
early during the Civil War and served with honor until the end of that
conflict, when he removed to the western part of the country, living
for a time in Silver City, New Mexico.

About 30 years ago he came to Arizona settling in Humboldt where he was
in the mining business and where he had lived until about a year ago.
Then, having retired from mining and sold his ranch near Humboldt, he
went to California to live.

Stricken with a stroke of paralysis, however, in June, he returned to
the home of his son in Humboldt, where he remained until the end.

Mr. Childers is survived by three sons, Ernest Childers of Humboldt; J.
W. Childers of Douglas and E. A. Childers of Tucson; one daughter, Mrs.
W. R. Orr of Humboldt, and a number of grandchildren and great
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 11 o'clock at the Ruffner
Funeral Chapel, followed by interment in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
