Death Takes Mining Man
Prescott. Aug. 1 - Thomas Ernest Childers, 61 years old, who was
connected with the mining industry of Yavapai county 36 years, died
this morning in his home after an illness of five months.
At the beginning of his recent illness he was foreman at the Turkey
creek, but for years before that was associated with G. M.
Colvocoresses and afterward George D. French at the Southwestern Mines
Company of Humboldt and was with Mr. Colvocoresses at Metor Crater near
Winslow. He was superintendent also at the Hidden Treasure mine at
Turkey Creek, and in the 'old days' occupied a responsible position at
the McCabe and Gladstone mines in the McCabe district.
In the 1890's he came from Silver City, N.M. to Arizona to stay a while
around Benson, but it was in McCabe that he was married in 1902 to
Theresa Farrell, who survives, as well as two sons, Leslie, born in
McCabe and Robert, born in Humboldt. Both sons are employed at the
Piggly Wiggly store here. Mr. Childers was a native of Seneca, Mo.
His birth occurred March 13, 1874.
He was a Baptist by faith and for 25 years belonged to the Odd Fellows
lodge in Silver City.
Besides those mentioned, other survivors are two brothers, J. W. of
Douglas and E. A., who was last heard from in Tucson; a sister, Mrs. W.
R. Orr (Pearl), Humboldt, and a grandchild, Marie, daughter of Leslie.
The body is at the Lester Ruffner Funeral Home.

Funeral Notice
The funeral service for Ernest Childers will be held at the Lester
Ruffner Funeral Home, 303 South Cortez street, Saturday afternoon at 3
o'clock.
Friends and acquaintances are invited. Interment will be at the IOOF
cemetery.
