On the morning of July 7, 2018, the town of Jerome, Arizona, lowered
its flags to half staff to mark the farewell to Danny Burris, known
around town as Danny B.

Danny was a Southern gentleman, born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a
soft-spoken drawl that was sweeter than wine, of which, by the way, he
was quite fond. He grew up with siblings, David, Andrea, younger
brother Brian and baby sister Elizabeth Ann.

From day one, his nature was engaging and kind, always thinking of
others and what he could do for them. His sweet nature was constant
throughout his entire life. He earned the term of endearment in the
family, “Little Danny.”

From his early childhood, Danny had a flair for the artistic, as well
as a keen business acumen. His sister, Andrea, recounts him using his
charm to easily sell his handmade Shrinky-Dink-type flowers to the
entire neighborhood. This gift led him to become a purveyor of fine
American Crafts in his many successful galleries and shops along with
his life and business partner, Michael Gamble.

These two handsome men, Danny and Michael, had adventures wherever they
went, including a three-month stint in Costa Rica, where they learned
the meaning of Pura Vida and named their first store in Jerome after
The Good Life they quickly came to epitomize.

Other shops followed, including locations in Kapaau, Hawaii, and Solana
Beach, California. But, Danny’s heart was in Jerome, where he was loved
for his kindness, good humor, and always cheerful disposition. Danny
served as Jerome Art Walk President until he was replaced during a coup
(it’s a long story) and has been a director of the Jerome Chamber of
Commerce. He was a person who was counted on when there was any call
for help.

He leaves behind his 14-year companion and love of his life, Michael
Gamble, his “dream teams” at his shops, Pura Vida and Threads on Main,
so many people who loved him in the Verde Valley and Jerome, his
siblings, and his dear friend Susan and her family from Colorado.
Danny’s true, loving extended family is in Jerome, Arizona ... the
community that showed love and support for him and Michael as Danny
fought to stay healthy and vibrant despite the congenital heart defect
that ultimately shortened his life.

He emitted love, kindness and generosity to all. It was a gift. He
developed a family of friends and loved ones wherever he lived –
Jerome, Kapaau, Solana Beach, and was a known and beloved member of
each community he touched, no matter how long he stayed. His kind
leadership earned him admiration and love from all he met. Garnering so
much love and goodwill is a tribute to the way Danny lived his life.

If you would like to do something in memory of Danny, he would want you
to choose the Jerome Community Art Workshop. Contact Kathleen Jarvis at
the Jerome Library, 928-639-0574. Your cash or check donation can be
dropped off at Pura Vida Gallery, Threads on Main, or at the Jerome
Library.

A Celebration of Danny’s Life will be scheduled in the future.
