Valentine Alster, 78, of Phoenix, a communications specialist, died April 6, 1996.  He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a World War II army veteran.  

Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, David and Christopher; sisters, Margaret Welshonce and Dorothy Holland; brother, John; and three grandchildren.  

Visitation and services at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway.  Contributions:  Boys State Program, American Legion Post 107, 20001 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix.
