| Daily Star (Tucson, Arizona) Sunday, May 27, 2018, p. C9 A true native Arizonan, Hermione Gerrish Williams, 106, was born in Wickenburg, Arizona Territory on August 31, 1911 and passed away on May 4, 2018. Raised in old mining towns, she attended elementary school in Congress Junction, then graduated Prescott Junior High. A family move brought Hermione to Jerome where she graduated high school. In 1929 she entered Arizona State Teachers' College (now ASU) and graduated in 1933 with a Bachelors Degree and took the only job available in Arizona at Walnut Grove--a traditional, old fashioned "one-room school house." Her teaching career spanned from 1933-1977 and covered classrooms in Skull Valley, Chandler, Florence and finally Tombstone where her two children were raised. Both graduated from rival--the University of Arizona. She loved teaching and the hundreds of Arizona children she had the fortune to teach. She was preceded in death by Texan Horton Williams whom she married in 1936. Both retired in Tombstone and later moved to Tucson. Besides her son and daughter, Dillard (Kathy) and Kay, she is survived by grandchildren, Scott, Chad, Brian and Courtney and great grandchildren, Ryan, Sophia, Logan, Luke, Sadie, Cait, Maddie, Ainsley, Avery and Kat. A graveside service will be held at East Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements by East Lawn Palms Mortuary. See Also: Find A Grave |
