Major E. K. Otey died at Jerome last Friday, March 11, aged about 63
years.

Deceased has resided for about ten or twelve years in this county,
and was universally esteemed by all who knew him.

Death Doings -

Major E. K. Otey, aged 63 years, died in Jerome, March 10, of general
debility. The Jerome News says: 'In the death of E. K. Otey, Jerome
loses on of her oldest and most respected citizens.

The Major came to Jerome about twelve years ago in the employ of the
No. U. C. Co. as bookkeeper.

After leaving their employe he was elected justice of the peace, and
up to a little over a year ago he depended upon the revenues from
that office for a living.

He had no enemies, was always a gentleman, and a man of more than
average intelligence.

He was a native of Virginia.

Last Saturday afternoon the remains of the late Major E. K. Otey were
laid to rest in he new cemetery.

The funeral services were conducted under the auspices of the members
of the Knights of Pythias lodge of Jerome, and their beautify and
impressive services were read over the remains of the grave.

Jerome claimed Major Otey for one of her earliest pioneers and the
United Verde Copper company, at its very beginning gave him a
position of trust, which he performed faithfully for fifteen years.
He also served as a Justice of the Peace. - Mining News.
