| Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, March 30, 2019 William A. Backus, age 81, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away as a result of advanced dementia. He was born March 27, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to Leslie and Helen Backus. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Joan N. Backus. Bill married Joan, the love of his life, in September 1976. They were married 35 years and had two daughters, Charlotte and Helen. Bill’s elementary and high school years were in Michigan. After graduating from Fordson High School in 1955, he enlisted in the USMC. He extended for a second tour in Okinawa and was honorably discharged five years later. Throughout his life, Bill lived in Michigan, Phoenix, Mayer and then settled in Prescott in 1992. He worked for Honeywell, Allied Signal and Bar S Machine. Bill is survived by his children, Charlotte (Mike) Schaible, Helen (Ryan) Crowl; his step-children, Patty (Richard) Culver and Greg Coffin; sisters Nancy (Harry) Birchard and Mary (John) Lindenmuth; grandchildren Ian, Richard, Austin, Braeden, Sierra, Brianne and Briar. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will definitely be missed. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the First Church of the Nazarene at 2110 Willow Creek Road in Prescott.
