| Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, March 30, 2019 Betty Jane Foster passed away March 15, three days after her 96th birthday. Jane was at her home in Prescott, Arizona, with her sons, Dave and Don Foster; grandchildren Kyle Foster, Jackson Foster, Sonni Foster Marissa Foster and husband Robert. She is preceded in death by her son, Steven Knisely; father, Kyle Bales; mother, Gladys Bales; and sister, Doris Blakeman. Jane was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1923, and was a lifetime member of the Unity Church. She attended the University of Missouri and received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. She later attended law school there and received her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1947. Jane’s father bought several Lorenzo Hubbell trading posts in 1949 including Marble Canyon Lodge located at the Navajo Bridge near Lee’s Ferry 125 miles north of Flagstaff. Jane and her family operated Marble Canyon beginning in 1963. She became a fixture and celebrity of Northern Arizona and was loved by travelers, river runners and the Navajo people of the area. As per her wishes, her ashes will be scattered at the base of the Chocolate and Vermilion Cliffs behind the Marble Canyon Lodge. A memorial service will be held at the Lodge, however the date has not been set.
