| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, June 07, 2018 Long-time Prescott resident Leona Proper passed away Saturday, June 2, in Cornville, Arizona, at the age of 90. She was born Jan. 10, 1928. in Maxwell, New Mexico. She moved to Flagstaff as a young adult and then to Prescott in 1953 with husband Richard “Dick” Proper. Together they raised three sons who all graduated from Prescott High School. Leona was an ardent supporter of military services. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving in many leadership positions locally in Prescott, and as the Arizona President from 1992-1993. Leona was a leader for the Auxiliary’s Girl State convention for many years, helping plan and organize and chaperon at the conventions. For decades, Leona volunteered many hours at the Whipple Veterans Hospital She was preceded in death by her husband Richard. She is survived by her children, Rod, Jeff and Andy. Visitation will be Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., with funeral services to follow at 10:30 a.m., at United Methodist Church 505 W. Gurley, Prescott, interment to follow at Oddfellows Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to either the American Legion Auxiliary or Catholic Social Services.
