PECK, Edmond George (Ed)

The Oasis, Arizola, Arizona Territory Saturday, December 17, 1910, page 2.1 Died In His Sleep Wednesday morning Mr. E. G. Peck was found dead in his bed. Judge J. J. Chatham held a coroner's inquest, and the verdict of the jury was that the deceased had died from natural causes. Deceased was one of the pioneers of Arizona, having come to the territory forty five years ago or more. In General Crook's campaign against the hostile Apaches he served with credit as a government scout. In the early '70s he discovered the famous Peck mine, in Yavapai county, from which he realized a handsome fortune, which was frittered away however in later and unsuccessful mining adventures. Mr. Peck was in his seventy-seventh year, and was remarkably well preserved and vigorous for one of his age. Tuesday evening he retired in his usual good health and spirits. He is quoted as having remarked in the course of the day that he was nearly seventy-seven years old, and had never had an ache or a pain, was strong and vigorous, and expected to live to be one hundred. Yet that very night the spring ran down, the wheels stopped, and the machine became lifeless. Transcriber's note: Mr. Peck is buried in the City of Nogales Cemetery, Nogales, Arizona.
