Odd Combination Kills
Matthew Grissom, solicitor for a New York life insurance company, was burned to death in a peculiar way. He had set a steel trap for a rat, and the night before a neighbor's dog was shut up in the room by accident. The dog upset a can of gasoline, saturating the atmosphere of the room with gasoline fumes.
About four o'clock Grissom was awakened by the cries of the dog, took a light and went to release him. As he entered the room the fumes of the gasoline became ignited. An explosion followed, and Grissom was enveloped in the flames which filled the room, rendering escape impossible.
