Lake Havasu City, Arizona -

Kären John, passed away on November 4, 2019 at Sunrise Hospital,
Henderson, Nevada. Kären Maxine Smedal was born in Ames, Iowa, to Olav
and Vivian (Snook) Smedal. She graduated from Ames High School in 1962
and from Iowa State University in 1965.

She worked for the Dayton Corporation, Shipstads & Johnaon Ice
Follies, Iowa State University and Amerus Bank. She married Edward V.
John on May 25, 1985. In 1998 they retired to Lake Havasu City,
Arizona.

Mrs. John was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church where she was an
active member of Agape and Naomi Circles and WELCA. She was also a
board member of the Columbarium Memorial Garden and Social Concerns
and also a member of the D.A.R., the Lake Havasu City Republican
Women, a life member of Iowa State University Alumni Association, Pi
Beta Phi Sorority, and past board member of the Izaak Walton League.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Olav and Vivian Smedal.

Kären is survived by her husband, Edward; step-son, Edward (Mary Beth)
John; two step-grandsons, Bellevue, Washington; brother, Karsten
(Sharon) Smedal, of Ames, Iowa; one niece of Des Moines, Iowa; two
great-nieces of Des Moines, Iowa; one nephew of Orlando, Florida and
one great-niece of Orlando, Florida.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00am on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at
Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Ames Municipal Cemetery
at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Olive
Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Association.

Services were entrusted to the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
