Layton Joseph Ducote

Layton Ducote, Sr., of Bisbee, AZ died peacefully in Phoenix Sunday morning, May 15, 2005 at the age of 96. At his side was his wife of 73 years, Berniece. Layton was born in Cottonport, La., in July 1908, the second of seven children. He went to New Mexico as a young man to work with his uncle Felix Gauthier in the dry goods business. He married Berniece in January 1933.

He is survived by his four children, Layton, Jr. of Phoenix, Don of Sierra Vista, Diane (Michael) Quinn of Phoenix and Richard (Wendy) of Tucson. He is also survived by his brother, Ray of Baton Rouge and 12 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren.

He was a long-time employee of Phelps Dodge in Bisbee, an accomplished carpenter, a loving husband and family man.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 10:30 AM at Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Dr., Chandler, AZ 85225. Memorial Contributions to Hospice of The Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014 have been suggested by his family. A gathering of family and friends will follow.
