| Arizona Republic (Phoenix, Arizona) Friday, August 17, 1973, p. B-4 Walter Shafer, 65, who came to Arizona 28 years ago and owned businesses in Flagstaff and Phoenix, died Tuesday while visiting in Ord, Neb. Mr. Shafer, 1841 N. Mitchell, had owned a laundry in Phoenix until retiring in 1970. He earlier had owned a lumber and tire business in Flagstaff and had been an insurance agent in Flagstaff and Phoenix. Born in Sargent, Neb., he had farmed in Nebraska and Arkansas. He was a member of Garfield United Methodist Church of Phoenix and the Masonic lodge in Flagstaff. Survivors include his wife, Irma F.; three sons, Walter E. of Prescott and Frank A. and Robert C. of Flagstaff; a daughter, Mrs. Anna Marie Laughlin of Phoenix; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Mercer Mortuary, 1541 E. Thomas. Burial arrangements are incomplete. See Also: Find A Grave |
