Auto Turns Turtle, Hurls Phoenix Man
To Death At Washout Near Gila Bend

T. M. Hamilton, 50 years old, proprietor of Hamilton's Cyclery at 20-22 North Second street, was killed at 1 o'clock yesterday morning when his automobile turned over near Gila Bend. Several of Mr. Hamilton's ribs were broken and he suffered brain concussion, from which he died in about 10 minutes.

"Slim" Sabt, cook employed at a local restaurant, was riding in the car when it overturned, and was badly cut and bruised as a result of the accident.

The accident occurred at a washout near Gila Bend, necessitating a turn-out at that point. A coroner's jury, empanelled yesterday by B. B. DeNure coroner of the Gila Bend precinct, found that Hamilton came to his death as the result of an "automobile accident caused by a washout not properly protected by danger signals."

Investigating authorities reported that the machine turned over when Hamilton attempted to negotiate the turn-out.

Mr. Hamilton, accompanied by Sabt left Phoenix Thursday night for Los Angeles, where the bicycle dealer intended to join his wife, who made the trip to the coast last Saturday.

After the inquest yesterday afternoon, the body was brought to Phoenix by the H. M. Maus mortuary.

Mr. Hamilton's death was the second fatal accident which occurred Thursday night on the Yuma road. In the first accident, about 5:15 p.m., Albert Simmons, employe of the Benbow ranch near Buckeye, was killed in an auto crash east of Cashion.

Mr. Hamilton is survived by his widow and two sons, Merrill Hamilton, employed by the New State Electric company, and Earl Hamilton, connected with a construction company in California. He had been a resident of Phoenix for nearly 11 years.
