Arthur T. McDermott, equipment firm owner
Arthur T. McDermott, 63, who owned the McDermott Equipment Co. and was known for the charitable use of his firm's services in schools and churches, died of a heart attack Wednesday at his home, 4201 N. 47th Drive.
Mr. McDermott moved to the valley in 1950 and in 1958, started his company, which specialized in concrete sawing and core drilling on industrial facilities and highway projects. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and at one time was Montana state amateur golf champion. Born in Camp Crook, S.D., he was taken to Billings, Mont., as a youth where his father was president of the Montana State Bank. At 18 Mr. McDermott was engaged in the livestock business in Montana.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Lt. Col. Arthur T. McDermott Jr. with the Marines in Saigon; Lon R., an Arizona contractor; two daughters, Mrs. Margot Balczewski of Park Falls, Wis., and Mrs. Kathleen McIntosh of Phoenix; and 28 grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow in Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home, 330 N. Second Ave. A concelebrated Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 231 N. Third St. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
