Betty Jo (Johnston) Prieskorn went home to be with her Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ on August 3, 2020. She was 93 years old. Betty Jo was
born May 16, 1927, to Lewis and Blanche (Allen) Johnston in White
Plains, Kentucky. The family moved to Wayne, Michigan, where Betty Jo
graduated from Wayne Memorial High School in 1944. She met her
husband, Carl A. Prieskorn, in the young people’s group at First
Baptist Church Wayne, and they married two years later on August 3,
1946. Three years later, they had their one son, Bryan.

Betty Jo worked as a bank teller for 15 years at National Bank of
Detroit in Wayne, Michigan. After she retired, she spent her years
planning and orchestrating social events at her church, working in
Pioneer Girls, and serving on the church’s mission board. Her quirky
sense of humor and her ability to talk to anyone made her an asset to
any group she joined.

After the death of her husband in 1984, she moved to Lamar, Missouri,
to be near her two sisters and to help take care of her aging mother.
She later moved to Lake Havasu City in 1992 to be near her son and his
family.

Betty enjoyed traveling. Despite the distance, even into her late-80s,
Betty drove herself on a yearly cross-country road trip to visit her
sisters in Missouri. She also loved attending gospel music quartet
conventions, Kentucky school reunions, and visiting her many cousins.

Betty was an avid collector of all things hummingbird and a faithful
member of the WOW Bible study. She also enjoyed watching Wheel of
Fortune, doing search-a-word puzzles, playing Solitaire, and reading
as many Christian fiction books as she could get her hands on.

She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Prieskorn, parents Lewis
and Blanche Johnston, father-in-law Conrad Prieskorn, mother-in-law
Cora (Maahs) Prieskorn, brother-in-law Larry Prieskorn, and sister-in-
law Alvera (Prieskorn) Lewis.

Betty is survived by her son Bryan Prieskorn and her daughter-in-law
Cyndee of Lake Havasu City, AZ, grandchildren Dawn Zapata (Aaron) of
Yorba Linda, CA, and Aaron Prieskorn (Tangie) of Fountain Hills, AZ,
five great-grandchildren Levi (her birthday buddy), Malachi, Jordan,
Asher, and Charlotte with another little one due in January. She is
also survived by her sisters Nell Ruth (Finley) Voorhees and Robbie
Sue King, both of Lamar, MO, a sister-in-law Harriet Fowler of
Pittsfield, MA, and also several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

We would like to thank Hospice of Havasu and GEMS for the wonderful
love and care they bestowed on our Betty Jo.

No service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions
may be made to Hospice of Havasu or Lake Havasu Baptist Church.

Arrangements were placed in the care of Mohave Memorial Lake Havasu
Mortuary.
