| Published in Mohave Daily News Online on Feb. 12, 2021 - Bullhead City, Arizona - Howard L. Purtle, age 72, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. A native of Minneapolis, Minn., Howie and his late wife of 50 years, Susan P. Purtle, moved to Bullhead City, Ariz. in the early 1990's where they worked in the Laughlin, Nev. casinos and played on the Colorado River with family and friends. Howie, an enterprising businessman, started out in childhood selling newspapers, pigeons, and whatever else people were buying. He loved reading instruction manuals. What Howie didn't know instinctively, he taught himself through books. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix or build. In his lifetime, he owned an auto repair shop, a sewing machine repair business, and a big screen TV company. He and Susie owned and operated Everything Under the Sun, a tanning and travel company, with two locations: Columbia Heights and Brooklyn Park, Minn. Howie had a strong sense of responsibility and did whatever he needed to do to take care of his family. When business was slow, he worked as a school bus driver and also hauled freight for local trucking companies. He loved his family very much and was proud to be a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Howie was a people person who enjoyed keeping busy. He had many friends from Minneapolis to Fergus Falls, Minn.; and Bullhead City, Ariz. to Laughlin, Nev. In his later years, Howie was known for building birdhouses with solar lights. Not only was his yard filled with these unique creations, so were his neighbors' as well as family and friends' yards. Howie loved to travel. He and Susie made trips to Canada, Mexico and all over the US. His children fondly remember cross-country trips taken in the family station wagon. There wasn't a state Howie hadn't visited. When he wasn't traveling with family, he traveled with his sidekick, Zoe Dog. She rode in the van all over Bullhead City, flew on airplanes to Minnesota and took road trips to Wisconsin. Sadly, Zoe Dog passed two months before Howie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie; mother, Verna Habiger; sisters, Wendy DeGarmo and Sandy Purtle; twin sister, Barbie Johnson; and grandson, John Wayne Core, Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Dale) Rogers, Mona L. Friday and J. Lacy Core; sons, Jerry (Carolyn) Lammers, Tim (Diane) Purtle and John (Teresa) Purtle; sisters, Sherri Fransen and Linda (Jim) Guderian; brother, David Purtle; sister-in-law, Marge (Greg) Cincotta; grandchildren, Heather (Nick) Selness, Amanda (Cory) Peickert, Emily Rogers, Jessica Lammers, Ethan Lammers, Ellen Purtle, Anna Purtle, Analicia McClellan, Lindy (Tyler) Eddy, David Rutledge, Ataliya Williams, Morgan Purtle, Dailey Purtle, and Samara Core; great-grandchildren, Ares Lammers, Abigail Selness, Bentley Selness, Josie Peickert, Sean McClellan, Abby Joy Eddy; and countless nieces and nephews. |
