| Published in Today's News Herald on Mar. 9, 2021 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Shirley Anita Durrett, 78, passed away Thursday morning peacefully at home. She was born in Detroit to parents Alvin and Berchie Maxwell. Growing up in Troy and Utica, Michigan with her parents and brother Jeff, she later graduated from Oakland University in 1964. That same year she married Charles Durrett and began teaching elementary education. Shirley was vivacious, loved to travel, and talked to new people everywhere she went. Having traveled to every continent except Antarctica, she visited over 60 countries. Shirley found freedom in travel by exploring other cultures, enjoying different cuisines, and seeing the natural beauty around her. She was a book lover, enjoyed crafts, and welcomed friends to wonderfully cooked homemade meals. She is survived by her husband Charles of 56 years; four children, Jason, Brendan, Erin, and Megan; and three granddaughters, Rosalind Toll, Claire Toll, and Kira Durrett. In lieu of flowers, a suggestion of donations be made to the American Heart Association. In response to the pandemic, a private viewing will be held prior to cremation at Mohave Memorial Lake Havasu Mortuary. |
