| Published in The Arizona Republic on Mar. 16, 2021 - Phoenix, Arizona - Diane Lynn Lay born April 5, 1945 in Gloversville, New York to Albert Joseph Blaskewicz and Ida Josephine Fiorito. Diane died quietly on Feb 11, 2021 while a patient at Tempe Post Acute Care Center. Her mother Ida married Melvin D Vincent in 1954 and Melvin adopted Diane. Diane grew up in England (where Melvin supported military aircraft for North American Aviation) and finally La Habra, Calif. She graduated from Fullerton Junior College with an AA degree. She moved to Phoenix, Ariz in 1967 and became employed as an international documentation clerk at Motorola. There she met and married Larry Lay. They had three children - Stephen, Michael and Lori. She stopped working when Stephen was born and stayed home and raised her children - doing in-home childcare for 49 years. Diane loved to travel and took many trips to Europe. She also loved to read. After retiring from child care, she spent her last few years knitting blankets for dogs (no cats please) at her local animal shelter AAWL and rooting on tennis player Roger Federer. Her granddaughters called her "cooking grandma". Diane is survived by her ex-husband Larry Lay and their three children and six granddaughters Marina, Rachel, Anna, Juliana, Lauren and Katya and her beloved bishon/cocker mix Zoey. No services are planned. |
