| Published in The Arizona Republic from Mar. 22 to Mar. 28, 2021 - Phoenix, Arizona - Ruth Marie Butera, 86, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021. Ruth was born March 5, 1935 in La Crosse, WI to Frank and Lillian Guenther. Ruth married her college sweetheart Michael Butera in 1956 and they celebrated 61 years together until his passing in 2017. Ruth was a graduate of U of WI, became a beloved third grade teacher, until becoming a full-time mother and homemaker, her favorite profession. Ruth is survived by her four children; Michael, Elizabeth (husband Mark), Scott (wife Margie), Connie; grandchildren; Daniel (wife Hailey), Andrew (wife Paige), Brigette, Jacquilynn (fiancé Kaleb), Jordan, Dylan, Keane; great granddaughter Everleigh; Ruth's sister Corinne Peterson. Ruth lived in Phoenix for 54 years, enjoyed swimming in the summer and spending time with her family. She was an avid tennis player during her retirement years, enjoyed playing bridge with lifelong friends, lunched with her ladies and drove her classic '57 T-Bird around town and in parades. Ruth was part of the Classic T-Bird Club. A rosary, mass and celebration of life reception will be held on Friday, June 18 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 3801 E. Greenway Rd., Phoenix, 85032. Rosary at 12:30pm, Mass at 1:00pm, Reception to follow. |
