| Published in Today's News Herald on Mar. 31, 2021 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Capt. James (Jim) Edward Goodine USMC (retired), son of Joseph E. Goodine and Margaret L. Torma, of Detroit, was born Nov. 27, 1935 in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan and passed away on March 25, 2021 in Lake Havasu City at age 85. He was survived by his loving wife, Donna J. Goodine; sons, Dennis M. Goodine, David J. (Linda) Goodine; and his grandchildren by marriage, Cassandra, Trenton and Monet Land, to which he was known as Nono. He also is survived by his beloved brother, Raymond (Mary Beth) Goodine; brother-in-Law, John Satawa; along with several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his youngest son, Joseph E. Goodine II; his brother, John Goodine; and sisters, Mary Satawa and Sandra (Sandy) Borkowski. Jim grew up in Detroit, and upon completion of high school enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1954 where he spent 22 ½ years serving his country in many assignments including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Jim retired in 1976 while living in Santa Ana, California and went on to spend 20 years working in the athletic department at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California. Once fully retired, he and his wife Donna moved to Lake Havasu City as permanent residents. During his time in Lake Havasu City, he was actively involved in, affiliated with and supported many organizations including the BPOE Elks #2399, Marine Corps League, Loyal Order of Moose, Vagabonds Camping Club, Senior Bowling League, and the Senior Softball League. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Marine Corp League Detachment #757 PO Box 311 Lake Havasu City, AZ. 86405 Services will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 9-10 a.m. Visitation is at Mohave Memorial Lake Havasu Mortuary 2225 Kiowa Blvd LHC, AZ. 86403 from 10:40 – 11 a.m. A Marine Corp League Ceremony in Mary's Prayer Garden at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church is set for 11 a.m. to noon. A funeral service and mass is at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church located at 1975 Daytona Ave. Lake Havasu City, AZ. 86403 Light lunch to follow at the Elks Lodge-Lodge of Sorrow. |
