| Published in The Arizona Republic from Apr. 9 to Apr. 10, 2021 - Phoenix, Arizona - James Leston Shaw passed away at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona on Friday, April 2, 2021 at the age of 94. He was born November 8, 1926 to Carroll Leston Shaw and Gurli Akerhielm Shaw in Park Ridge, Illinois. His older brother Donald Shaw and twin sister Marilyn Smith preceded him in death. His family lived in Park Ridge, Illinois through high school and then moved to Grosse Point, Michigan where he enlisted in the Air Force. After his service Jim went on to graduate from Hillsdale College. In 1952 he married the love of his life Barbara Gregory who preceded him passing on March 2, 2020. They had 68 wonderful years together and in the end Jim looked forward to joining Barbara in heaven. Jim lived his life through his active faith in God, helping others and loving his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. In his profession as a sales manager, his unassuming and positive nature, his humility and belief in common good were key elements to his success. We honor Jim as a pillar of his community, through his service and dedication to helping his community he impacted the lives of many with through years of service with Kiwanis Club, Salvation Army, Caring Corp, Foothills Food Bank, Cave Creek School District, and Desert Hills Presbyterian Church. His mentoring and caring for others will continue to be the example set for his family. He lived in service to his church, held his relationship with God, family, friends and community close. Jim will be remembered for his patience, kindness, sense of humor and strength. He is survived by his children Cindy Shaw Thompson (Bob Thompson), Julie Shaw (Chuck Ruppenthal), and John Shaw (Mia Shaw). His five grandchildren Kyle Krikac, Merrit Thompson, Cole Krikac, Michael Thompson and Emily Shaw, and his great grandchild Nolan Curtis. The service for Jim and Barbara will be held on Saturday, April 24th, 10:30 A.M. At: Desert Hills Presbyterian Church 34606 Tom Darlington Road Scottsdale, AZ 85266 A reception will follow after the service. In lieu of flowers please send any donations to the following service organizations. The Kiwanis Club of Cave Creek, Salvation Army, Foothills Food Bank, Desert Hills Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. International and Hospice of the Valley. |
