Published in Today's News Herald on Apr. 15, 2021 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Maxine LaVerne Bethea passed away on March 17, 2021 in Lake Havasu City after a brief illness. Maxine was born April 12, 1936 on a family ranch near Tia Maria, New Mexico, the daughter of Frances Sligh Rich and Leonard Bush Rich. She had 10 brothers and sisters. She grew up between family ranches in New Mexico and Colorado and graduated from Fruita Union High School in Colorado. Maxine married Herschel Eugene Watts in 1954 in Raton, New Mexico. She traveled extensively overseas and in the Western U.S. with her second husband, Arthur Dixon Bethea, during his oil field career. Arthur predeceased her in 2003, while they lived in Odessa, Texas.She moved from Texas to Arizona, in 2006 following his death and made her home in Lake Havasu City. She was an active member of the Lake Havasu City Seventh-day Adventist Church. Maxine is also predeceased by two children, Marlene and Michael Watts. She is survived by a daughter, Marcelle Watts, and two grandchildren; her brother, Robert Rich, of Lake Havasu City; and many nieces and nephews; and her dearest friend, Ray Maxfield of Lake Havasu City. A memorial service for Maxine will be held on Sunday April 18, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Lake Havasu City Seventh-day Adventist Church.
