| Published in Yuma Sun on Apr. 18, 2021 - Yuma, Arizona >> David P. Elfers << >> January 20, 1937 - April 05, 2021 << David was born on January 20, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to Paul and Jessie Elfers. He was raised in Marshall town, Iowa. His father was a petroleum engineer and his mother was a homemaker. He obtained a B.S. degree in biology and forestry from Upper Iowa University and Oregon State, respectively and then was employed by Oregon University in forest research. He owned a beer and wine distributorship in Oregon and then became a real estate agent. He married the love of his life, Donna J. Spence in 1975. She was a nurse. They moved to Yuma in 1985 and, after a short stint selling mobile homes, retired. Donna passed away in 2013. David was an avid fisherman and loved woodworking. He was a philanthropist and donated to many charities, however, his favorite was supporting the Humane Society of Yuma. In his later years, Dave could always be found with one, two or three rescue dogs by his side watching golf, football or the news. He was also an avid reader and a savvy investor. There will be no services, however, a celebration of life will be held at the Humane Society of Yuma education room on May, 14, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Please sign the guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/yumasun |
