Glendale - SMSGT James L Evans USAF (Retired), 93, went home to be
with the Lord on April 14, 2021, in Glendale, Arizona. Born in a small
town in South Carolina, James was the son of Horace Harvey and Annie
Louise Evans. He married Helen Jean Morse in January 1953.
James enlisted in the USAF on September 20, 1950 and served during the
Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He served with distinction for 30 years and
was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service
Medal, and Korean Defense Service Medal. He retired with the rank of
Senior Master Sargent.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents, Horace
and Annie; his 3 brothers, Alton, Arnold and Jerome; and his 4
sisters, Regina, Grace, Eleanor and Rubye. He is survived by his 3
children, Jim Jr., Terry, and Judy; a stepson, Tim; 3 grandchildren,
Justin, Rachael, and Tara; one great grandson, Brady and several
nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on April 21, 2021 from 3pm-7pm at Chapel of
the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ. Funeral Service
will be held on April 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at Chapel of the Chimes
Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ. Graveside Service will be
held on April 22, 2021 at 1:30 pm at National Memorial Cemetery of
Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ.
